Lazy Hog

and this is the first book I'm reading.  It's an autobiography authored by the husband of an old friend.  She and I were school mates from kindergarten all the way to graduation.

Garden gifts

T. O. B. called me, while I was enjoying the lake cabin last weekend, and told me he had been yard~ saling.  Asked if he'd found anything good, he replied "Something for the garden.  I'll show you when you get home".

We love our garden and, at this time of year, are constantly adding to it.  Here is what I found when I arrived home . . . 

came complete with moss!

I had a little surprise for him as well.  Found this clump of fairy slippers alongside the road, dug them up and popped them in a plastic container.

Lovingly planted, I do hope they get along with their neighbors, Lily and Daisy, under the old maple tree in the corner of the yard.

Picked up this leather traveling case at a yard sale right around the corner last summer (smaller than usual at only 8 inches square) . . .

 cleaned it up a bit

Just knew there was something that could be done  to jazz it up!

After looking at it in my studio for almost a year, I dug in to my doilies, buttons and laces . . .

Printed off some luggage labels from Google Image . . . 

Added a beveled mirror, more trim, some old jewelry and another label to the inside

I'm very pleased with the result and proud to say I've been to at least one of these places . . . Raffles Hotel in Singapore!

Whoopee! Yard Sale Season

It was a beautiful weekend weather wise and Saturday was yard/garage sale day for us. Here are a few of our finds . . .

always happy when I can find art supplies for pennies.  Really good natural sable brushes and barely used glues.  Don't suppose I will be using the photo retouch kit but you never know!
 

I scored all these old paper grain sacks with great graphics for $5.  They are from Voigt Milling Co. in Grand Rapids, Mich. 

I can use this old iron bracket to hang a flower  basket in my butterfly garden

 and I just love this heavy duty ergonomically~correct trowel. Should help my digging in our rocky soil.

 I will have to research this heavy porcelain soap dish.  Looks to me like a railroad item.  Anybody know??

Oh . . . and I almost forgot the tiniest little clay pagoda I've ever seen

  Only 2 inches tall!
